Learning by Subject
KS1 marks a shift from EYFS to more subject-specific learning. KS1 covers all compulsory national curriculum subjects. These are English, maths, science, history, geography, languages, PE, art and design, music and design and technology.
The national curriculum establishes English, literacy, maths and science as core KS1 subjects. Our courses and resources are KS1 curriculum-aligned to ensure each subject meets specific aims.
Some of the subjects we offer...
English in the national curriculum promotes high standards of language and literacy by equipping children with a strong command of the spoken and written word and to developing their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment.
Mathematics in the national curriculum ensures that children develop confidence and mental fluency with whole numbers, counting and place value. This should involve working with numerals, words and the four operations, using practical resources, for example, concrete objects and measuring tools.
Science in the national curriculum enables children to experience and observe phenomena by looking more closely at the natural and humanly-constructed world around them. They should be encouraged to be curious and ask questions about what they notice. This course helps to develop their understanding of scientific ideas by using different types of scientific enquiry to answer their own questions.
